Oops! I forgot to write last week. Not having a special on Monday through me off.

This is the last blog I will post this school year. I have enjoyed working with all of the children and they have learned so much! I hope everyone has a happy and safe summer!

In literacy, we are wrapping up social issues. We don't have any spelling words this week, but we will be doing some spelling activities and games.

In math, we are finishing up Unit 5. We will review on Wednesday and test on Thursday.

We are writing poetry and we will share with the other third graders next week.

We have a nutrition presentation each day this week.

Wednesday, we will be having our last science lesson. We will be sharing rocks and doing some things with rocks. Please remind your child to bring their special rocks on Wednesday.

I will start to send certain things home this week and next week so there is no need to bring a huge bag for all their things.

Happy belated Birthday to Kaitlyn! (5/19)
Happy Birthday Bryan! (5/22)
Happy Birthday Kaden W! (5/28)

I hope everyone enjoyed the beautiful weekend!

This week in literacy, we are starting our last unit called Take a Stand. We will be talking about social issues. We will start by talking about social issues in the lives of third graders and what social issues we might read in books. We will be reading a lot of books with social issues in them such as bullies, racism, compassion, and overcoming adversity, just to name a few. I will also be working on F & P testing.

In writing, we are writing our perfect copies of our fractured fairy tales. The students have a choice of typing or writing their story.

This week, we are doing the end of the year Words Their Way testing and our high frequency word test so there is no Friday spelling test or high frequency words.

In math, we are finishing up our unit on area and perimeter. We will review on Wednesday and test on Friday.

Remember we have our field trip on Thursday. If you haven't sent a dollar, please do so ASAP. Also, it might help if your child brings a cold lunch on that day so your child has more time to eat since we are squeezing in between first grade and third grade lunches.

Tuesday, May 9 is the last day that we will be able to check out books. Please make sure all library books are back by next week.

Welcome to May and the last month of school!

This week we will be finishing our unit in literacy called Did You Know.... We will be doing some nonfiction reading and responding to what we read. I am also continuing to test the students to find their reading level.

In writing, we are doing our end of the year On-Demand writing about personal narratives on Tuesday. We will review personal narratives on Monday. On Wednesday, we will get back to our fractured fairy tales.

This week's high frequency words are: morning, money, seen, car, usually. There are five words this week, because we are winding down and we need to make sure we cover all the third grade high frequency words.

In math, we are learning about area and perimeter. We will be finding all the different options for the area or perimeter. We are also doing our monthly timings. We will do addition on Monday, subtraction on Wednesday, multiplication on Friday, and division next Monday. You will notice I am sending home sheets for your child to practice. I don't need these sheets back.

Don't forget to send in a dollar for our field trip to the Y on May 11.

Also, Wednesday starts Walk to Wednesday again;)

I can't believe this is the last week of April!

In math, we are continuing to learn about angles, polygons, and quadrilaterals. We will also be learning about the area and perimeter of a shape.

We will be starting a short unit on poetry in literacy. We will be reading and discussing the different parts of poems. I will also be starting the end of the year F & P testing to find your child's reading level.

This weeks high frequency words are point, toward, five, himself. Continue to work on the sorts and practicing words that are misspelled.

In writing, we are continuing to work on our fractured fairy tales. This week we will be focusing on dialogue and using a lot of descriptive words.

We are wrapping up our social studies unit on states, continents, and oceans. Next week we will be going back to science.

On Wednesday, we have the opportunity to go to Pickard to watch James and the Giant Peach.

This is our last week of Y5210. I have many students who have not been handing their sheets in. Just a reminder, that every sheet that is not handed in results in your child sitting out 5 minutes for each sheet they are missing.
