Happy First Day of Spring and the fourth quarter!
We have a busy, but short week. Wednesday is Pajama and Stuffed Animal Day. Thursday is the Young People's Concert. Friday there is no school because of PLD.

In literacy, we are working on folktales and what makes a folktale.

In writing this week, we will be writing our Thank You's for Career/Hobby presenters. We will also write our fourth quarter goals. Lastly, we will get ready for our next writing project which will start after break which is writing our own fractured fairy tale. We will brainstorm fairy tales and discussing which stories they can retell.

We will take our spelling test on Wednesday.

With the Forward Exam coming up in April, we decided that we need to cover fractions and geometry so we decided to put Unit 5 on hold. We will pretest Unit 7 on fractions on Monday. From there we will split the students into 3 groups. We will explore fractions by understanding what is a fraction, make fractions, and locate fractions on a number line.

A Reading/Fact/Word sheet is being sent home on Monday. It is due on April 3. I made a line down the middle of the reading part so students can record any reading they do over break so they can get credit for Fang's Reading Incentive. After break, we will be doing our monthly fact practice so please continue to work on facts.

Y5210 is also coming home. You can send it back this week or wait until April 3.

Happy Birthday to Natalie W. on March 26!!

Friday, March 17 is the end of the third quarter. Remember there is an 11:30 dismissal.

In math, we will be taking our Unit 5 Pretest on Tuesday. We will review Unit 3 on Wednesday and take the Post test on Thursday.

In reading, we are wrapping up our tall tales with our Reader's Theater. We will move on to fables. We will be talking about the morals/lessons of the fables.

In writing, we are finishing our research and writing our essays for their debates. A few students will do theirs on Wednesday and the rest will do their debates on Thursday.

Since we have two short weeks, we will be taking our spelling test on Wednesday, March 22. The high frequency words are: hear, example, heard, several.

I want to thank Mrs. Niemuth, Mrs. Mulloy, and Mr. Marcelle for chaperoning our two field trips.

Can you believe next week is the end of the third quarter? Where has the time gone?

This week in literacy our focus will be Tall Tales. We will read some Tall Tales and discuss what makes the story a tall tale. We will also get a reader's theater tall tale to practice and present later.

In writing, we are working on our debates. We have done a lot of research to help with examples and facts to support with our reasons. This week we will work on a strong lead and transitions.

This week our high frequency words are: young, sun, thing, whole.

In math, we are working on elapsed time, adding and subtracting time, and graphing.

Our field trip to the Weidner Center and Heritage Hill is Thursday. Please make sure your child has a cold lunch and drink unless they've order a lunch to go. Also, make sure they dress for the weather. We will be doing a lot of walking outdoors at Heritage Hill.

Fang's Reading Club started Friday. Remember our goal is 200 min. per base. In order to get their base and prize they need to hand in their weekly reading sheet. I will keep track of the minutes they've read since March 3. The only way your child won't make their goal is if they don't read and hand in their weekly sheets. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask.
