It was really nice to have a chance to talk to so many parents at conferences.
We have a full week this week.
It is also Read Across America week so there are special activities planned for each day. A note went home last week with all the activities planned.

In reading, we are starting our unit called What a Critic! We will be reading and discussing fairy tales/fractured fairy tales, fables, folk tales, tall tales, myths and legends. Each week we will learn about them. This week our focus in on fairy tales/fractured fairy tales. We will be looking at a lot of the story elements.

In writing, we are working on our debates. This week our focus will be finding evidence to support our thesis statement. We will also be working on writing our three reasons to support it.

In math, we are working on telling time on an analog clock, telling the time before and after the hour, working on elapsed time, and solving word problems involving time.

We have our field trip to the EAA AirVenture Museum on Tuesday.

Happy 1/2 birthday to Mason on Monday!

I need to apologize for not writing last week.
I need to wish belated Happy Birthdays to Rylie (2/13) and Jillian (2/14)!

This week we are finishing up our projects with our biographies and we will share them Wednesday and Thursday.

In math, we are working on telling time on an analog clock. Any extra help would be helpful.

I am sending home the high frequency words this week, but we will not be taking the spelling test until next week. The high frequency words are: however, sure, try, told.

In writing, we are finishing up our letters and moving on to our debate topics. They will have almost three weeks to work on their debate topics.

I have two chaperones for each of our field trips to the EAA AirVenture Museum and the Weidner Center.

I look forward to see and talking to all of you at conferences on Thursday and Friday!

I also forgot to wish Talyn a happy 1/2 birthday on Feb. 4!
We are learning a lot about famous people. We are working on a mini research project about a president. We will be getting our biography on Tuesday and our goal will be to be almost done reading the biography so we can work on a final project. Students will have an opportunity to work on another project with a different biography. We will also be doing some activities for Black History Month as well.

In math, we started Unit 3 on measurement. Hopefully your child told you who their new math teacher is. We are working on measuring things with a ruler, line plots, liquid measurement/volume.
Continue to work on practicing addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division facts as well.

This week our high frequency words are: paper, hard, near, sentence.

In writing, we are putting the finishing touches on our letter to Ms. Neitzel. We will then move on to writing a persuasive letter to someone on something that they feel passionate about. Don't be surprised if you get a letter soon.

Remember their Valentine Day boxes can start to come in on Friday, Feb. 10. If they don't bring it until Monday (2/13) or Tuesday (2/14), that is fine too.

Also remember to return the Y5210 papers along with the weekly Reading/Facts/Word Work sheets each Monday.
